Funds for Animal Welfare:

  • Animal Welfare Funding Circle (India): Provides one-time or multi-year funding up to ₹75 lakhs for organizations or up to ₹5 lakhs for individuals. It targets initiatives like advocacy, research, and education for farmed, community, working, and laboratory animals. Learn more at the India Animal Welfare Funding Circle. As noted by India Animal Welfare Funding Circle, the circle focuses on “projects targeting farmed animal welfare.” 
  • Small Research Grants for Animal Welfare: Offers up to £5,000 for scientific research addressing animal welfare challenges. Applications close on October 1, 2026. According to Funds for NGOs, the grant supports “research involving farmed, companion, laboratory, captive wild, and free-living wild animals affected by human activities.” 
  • The Lady Freethinker Urgent Need Fund: Provides grants up to USD 10,000 for registered non-profits and NGOs globally that focus on emergency rescue and public awareness. 
  • Culture & Animals Foundation (CAF): Funds global academic and artistic projects across three categories: Research, Creativity, and Performance, with an annual deadline of January 31.

Taking care of animals reflects the grace of Lord Shiva. Shiva is known as Pashupati, meaning the “Lord of Animals,” where pashu means animal and pati means protector.  (Hinduism-Sanatana Dharma)

Ecclesiastes 3:19–21 reflects on the bond between humans and animals, noting: “For that which befalls the sons of men befalls animals; even one thing befalls them; as the one dies, so dies the other; yes, they all have one breath; so that man has no preeminence above an animal.” —

The Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW) is a proposed inter-governmental agreement to recognise that animals are sentient, to prevent cruelty and reduce suffering, and to promote standards on the welfare of animals such as farm animals, companion animals, animals in scientific research, draught animals, wildlife and animals in recreation.[1]

It was proposed that the declaration would be adopted by the United Nations. If endorsed by the UN (as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was) the UDAW would be a non-binding set of principles that acknowledge the importance of the sentience of animals and human responsibilities towards them. The principles were designed to encourage and enable national governments to introduce and improve animal protection legislation and initiatives.
